From the Computer’s Mouth: NFL Power Rankings and Week 14 Predictions

The Titans are on fire!  CJ2k is back, and boy is he ever.  The past 4 games have seen a 5.7 yards per carry average, 486 total yards rushing and 3 touchdowns.  Hopefully it wasn’t took late for you folks holding out with him in fantasy.  The result of this stellar performance?  Titans win 3 of the last 4, and are sitting at 7-5.  Alas, according to the computer leastways, they end the year with 9 wins and are out of the playoffs.  Further teaser… the 4th, AFC West, seed right now?  Tim Tebow and his Broncos.  1984 flash back… “Do you believe in miracles?!”

What else do we see up there.  The Cardinals?  I believe their victory this past week against the Cowboys speaks for itself.  They have brought the Cowboys to justice, but prior to that they have won 3 of their last 4 (Rams, Eagles, loss to 49ers, Rams).  Sitting at 5-7, they are a few onside kicks shy of a playoff birth right now.  If they win this week against the 49ers though, their remaining three games don’t seem so bad.  Maybe, after this week, we will revisit this.

Enough has been said about the Broncos by everyone else.  The Dolphins are too little, too late.  All they have shown us, is that when star players get together, it may take a season, but they can play well.  It seems that Sparano has saved his job, and his seat just cooled enough so that all eyes are not on him anymore.  Hello, Andy Reid!  The Dolphins already racked up 8 losses and are out of the hunt.  Not mathematically, but in common-man’s math they sure as heck are.

Matt (look at his new power rankings here!) and I sure have taken a ton of heat for this video.  I don’t know why, that was one of the biggest surprises this year.  Right up there with the Chiefs stumping the Raiders in week 7, the Ravens being choked out by the Jaguars in week 7 – or the Seahawks in week 10.  Or.. Tebow.  Matt has played football for 6 years, and I’ve played a lot of Madden which has to count for something.  Neither here nor there, that was the only wrong pick by Matt on video, but it’s always the wrong ones that get noticed!

This computer algorithm, granted hindsight is 20/20, is batting about 73% on the year.  Curiously, right around where Matt has been and Jamie.  I’ve been at about a coin flip on my picks, but I like to credit that to game-busting.  An act where you pick the other team, despite being the big underdogs they are, just because you don’t want everyone to pick the same thing.  Hey, someones gotta do it.
