From the Computer’s Mouth: NFL Power Rankings and Week 13 Predictions

Another week in the books!  5 weeks to go; the Packers are still undefeated and the Colts are still looking for their first win.  It would be a quite boring graph if I put those teams up there.

The Chargers started the year 4-1.  Beating the Vikings, Chiefs Dolphins and Orton-led Broncos.  Their only loss was to the Patriots.  Since then, they have not won a football game.  The Chargers keep their slide going, currently at 6 games.  The have a streak going alright!  Philip Rivers quarterback rating this year is 80.8 and the teams turnover differential is -10.

The Redskins seem to be better off with Rex Grossman after all.  What a questionable decision that was by Mr. Shanahan to bench him in the first place.  He’s not the only coach to be shaky about his quarterback.  The Broncos seem to still lack faith in their quarterback who is not afraid to show, and defend, his faith on national television.

It took awhile to figure out the Cardinals, and even now they are still a bit of a mystery.  When they won in week one, the big story was not the poor play of the Cardinals, rather the upstart Cam Newton that everyone was bullish about.  The Cards lost two very close games against the Redskins and Seahawks.  Another close loss against the Giants and the Cards were quietly sitting at 1-3.  It wasn’t until they lost to the Vikings (with Donovan McNabb, mind you) that the harsh plummet to the bottom occured.  Since then though, they’ve been batting .500, beating the Rams twice and the Eagles, and losing to the 9ers, Steelers and Ravens.

The 49ers can do everything except defeat an elite team.  Their only 2 losses came to the Cowboys and the Ravens.  In their defense, they have won some impressive games.  The Bengals by 5, the Buccaneers by 45, and the Giants are on their belt as well.  They have been outscoring their opponents by an average of 9.18 points this year, and are +101 score differential this year so far.  +16 turnover differential certainly helps too.

The Broncos keep winning, but they keep defeating already deflated teams.  The Raiders were still showing Carson Palmer their playbook and the Jets were still trying to forget the butt-kicking the Patriots put on them the week before.  I don’t think I have to say anything about the Chargers or the Chiefs.  The Lions are in the 9 spot on these power rankings and they put the screws to the Broncos.  The real test for Tebow will be when he goes up against a real test, such as the Vikings next week.  Just kidding!  The Patriots the week after that?  There you go.

It’s sad to see the Chargers slated to lose against the Jaguars.  The Raiders are picked to win next week also.  I don’t know, the Dolphins are playing pretty well, and I think the Bears probably would have beat them last week had Cutler been still around.  That one will be a fun one to watch.  It would also be sad if the Seahawks beat the Eagles.

But hey, if the Packers win this week, that’s 12-0 baby!
